My ‘Mini Sunday’ Approach to Everyday Stress

Life and stress are unpredictable, especially as a freelancer! Sundays are my favourite day of the week. I wind down and treat myself for the previous week and I make preparations for the next one. The only problem is that I wish we had more of them! We need more of them! As a result, I’m having lots of mini Sunday moments…

Some days are easier than others. That’s just a fact of life. No matter how far in advance you prepare, no matter how much you plan, something can always come along and send you reeling. That’s what I’m finding. About a once a month, I’ll be completely overwhelmed with work. It’s never a bad thing – it sends my income for that month flying, but I do feel the stress in the moment. The day I am writing this is Monday the 30th of April and the end of a month signals a bunch of monthly reports that need to be written. On top of that I have the usual every day tasks and some extra work. I’ve worked way later than I should have done again!


My favourite Sunday moments

Every Sunday is different because that’s how life is, but I do have some favourite pastimes to end the weekend and start the week. I clean my house thoroughly to make sure it’s hotel fresh for the week ahead. A tidy house is a tidy mind! I get laundry and other household chores out the way (hell, this week, I even cleaned the fridge, oven and microwave!) Most Sundays I’ll take a bath, light a few candles, put fresh sheets on the bed and have some pampering time – manicure anyone? The problem is that there’s never enough hours in a day to do all my favourite things but I do appreciate how each one makes me feel organised, relaxed and renewed!


Mini Sunday Moments on a Monday

Having just had a steam, a hot bath, a mud mask, tone and moisturise, I am feeling so fresh right now. From tired and homicidal to calm and spa-like zen. The sheets are in the wash. My dinner is cooking. The boyfriend even did a bit of spring cleaning! Make a list of all of your favourite Sunday moments and then pick one or two to make time for after a stressful day. Let’s try to make every day a bit more like a Sunday. Don’t wait for the end of the week to treat yourself and spend time replenishing your energy to attack the next day with. After all, if we attacked every day like Monday morning, we’d be at the top of our game! And if we unwind every evening with a few mini Sunday moments, we’ll be more relaxed and refreshed for it!


Mini Sunday Moment Suggestions

If just the thought of a task is too much to handle right now, here are a few of my favourite self care suggestions:

  • A hot bath
  • Home manicure
  • Full body moisturise
  • Head and temple massage
  • Fresh sheets
  • Peace and quiet (aka a candle and some slow tunes)
  • An easy to watch film
  • A slow walk somewhere green and leafy
  • A proper facial – cleanse, face mask, tone and moisturise
  • Quick tidy round
