Two New Year Resolutions

It’s the time of year we reflect on everything we did in the past year. Live and learn, they say. Whilst 2016 was quite the year of accomplishments, it still wasn’t perfect. Of course I have new year resolutions!

This year I’m keeping it simple. Stress less. Travel more. That’s really all there is to it.

Stress Less

I suffer (quite severely) from stress. I’m not even talking about the general ‘I’ve got a lot on my plate right now’ kind of average panic. I’m talking about the fact that my plate always seems to be too full and unmanageable and I live with the constant pit of worry bubbling in my stomach. Sometimes I can’t switch off. Sometimes I stress about things I can’t even change. It makes me sick and moody and I’ve decided, since I don’t want to prematurely age, it has to stop.

Frankly, this is how I’m going to cope with stress. Number one: don’t stress because you’re not paid to. It’s probably either not your problem anyway or just not worth it. Number two: don’t stress because it can’t be helped. Worrying about stuff that you genuinely can’t change seems pointless. Number three: take care of yourself. I am going to do it all. I’ll light candles, run baths, get massages, drink herbal tea, do everything I can to calm down. Frustration dancing around the flat to Stevie Nicks and Lady Gaga is probably not a medical solution. (Probably).

Travel More

I have this genuine fear that I’m going to die young. It’s silly to say but honestly, I don’t want to run the risk of leading a boring life just in case! I want to have lived. I’m not saying my life hasn’t been good, because it has. I’ve lived in different places, met a variety of people, learned a range of stuff, got a nice house, adopted many an animal in my time, seen some baby turtles, got a first class degree, successful blog and am a published author at just 21. But I’ve literally seen none of the world. I need to travel. So this year I’d like to save all my wages and explore in my free time. City breaks to Paris and Rome, adventures in Norway, Canada, Switzerland and Denmark. Summer getaways to some remote island. Touch down in white sands. Venture to bigger cities. I’m taking this quite seriously!

Let me know your new year resolutions, if you have any!
