How To Self-Love

Hello lovelies! The format change of my recent SEO-friendly blog posts lately haven’t seemed very sincere so I’m going back to my old ways from now on. I have had an epiphany of sorts! For the last couple of weeks I’ve been really unhappy. I’ve just been feeling a little unfulfilled (which is kind of stupid) but I’ve taken some steps this weekend to remedy that. Some of those are career-related. Others are simply just a bit of TLC! Today, I wanted to talk about self-love.

Self-LoveĀ

I saw this term thrown around a lot in 2016. I don’t think I understood what it meant until now. In short, it’s actually giving a shit about what happens to yourself. It’s about knowing what you want and going for it. I think I’ve had that one down for a while! But, more than that, it’s about taking care of yourself, from eating to exercise, de-stressing and more. I’ve been eating vegetarian for nearly a year now and generally do eat well. My post-Christmas binge bod was a little thicker than my usual self but the last month of healthy eating has seen it put right again. The other self-love activities are not quite perfected yet but I’m trying. Here’s what I’m doing to stress less and take better care of myself this year.

Have a Routine

I might have finally achieved the ultimate evening routine that allows time for my freelance work, my hobbies and some pampering! Winter nights have been a challenge because I’m so sensitive to light, meaning I’m sleepy around 4pm. The golden routine seems to be: come home, eat dinner, spend one or two hours on work, run a bubble bath and settle in for a reading session. I’m going to have to get even better at work after work soon because I’m about to get a lot busier! Hopefully I can continue to take care of myself and still make time for relaxing.

Self-Love Kit

This one is my favourite step. Buy: bath products, body scrub, body lotion, face mask and your favourite candle. I’m currently using the Lush lavender teabags, a scrub I got on ASOS, Nip & Fab’s de-stress lotion, Origins Charcoal Mask or their Ginzing peel-off mask and, of course, Seychelles by the White Company. Being silky smooth and fantastic smelling really does help to pick me up. Other feel-good items I can recommend right now include Lush’s BIG shampoo which smells incredible and is giving my fine hair some much-needed oomph these days, and lingerie, in a more general term. Never underestimate the power of good lingerie. Sleep in it, lounge in it, live in it. If I’m having a good day, getting through my to-do list and accomplishing goals, you can bet it’s just because I’m wearing some confidence inducing lingerie that day! Having a self-love kit and making a routine of using it has helped me feel great, pretty much all of the time!

The Mindset

Self-love, for me, is a mindset. It’s something I have to actively practice because it doesn’t always come naturally. I’ve taken a weekend out. I’ve pampered myself and I’ve stopped being so powerless. I am in control of my life and you are in control of yours. Don’t be afraid to grab the reigns back sometimes. Apply to that group. Apply to that job. Ask for more. Do people around you proud. Absolutely nothing is out of reach. You don’t have to know where you’ll end up right now but you’re certainly young enough to throw everything away to try for something a little out-there! And, if you’re still complaining, then you’re not working hard enough to change it!
