I have a new favourite place, or should I say favourite restaurant, in London. Vapiano is an Italian restaurant and bar in Soho and Adam and I stumbled into it accidentally because they offered us pizza for free once and it tasted pretty good so we thought, hey, why not actually try that place one day?
Vapiano has a really different concept. When you walk in you are handed a card and you take this card with you to the bar or to the direct chef that you want to cook your dinner and then watch them as they do so and pay on your contactless card which you then pay off at the end.
The restaurant itself is beautiful. There are high tables for up to six and canteen style tables downstairs in what honestly looks like a greenhouse. Our favourite spot, and we’ve been there enough times to know, is the square table that wraps around a tree. We like to sit underneath this- very real- tree because where else can you do that?
Adam always goes for his pizza and leaves with a phone type thing that flashes when he needs to collect his meal. I always go to a specific pasta chef who makes the best carbonara I have ever tasted- and I have tasted a lot of carbonara from a lot of different places!
The drinks are also good, decent prices for central London. Featured above is a strawberry spritz cocktail or something; I can’t really remember but it was sweet and tasty and I toasted my second year anniversary with it!
I recommend this place to anyone, though especially to groups of people who want to eat out but all like different things and it makes paying separately for exactly what you ordered far easier than splitting the bill!
If you are a Londoner then avoid this place on a Friday night as you will not get a seat; take any other opportunity to go!
Going to be returning soon now that I’ve looked at that carbonara…
